Tour Plan

Hotel pickup — morning or afternoon Your driver collects you from your hotel and transfers you to Stone Town.

Old Fort and Forodhani Gardens — Start at the Old Fort, one of Stone Town's oldest structures, and the waterfront gardens nearby — a good introduction to the town's layout and history before heading into the alleys.

The carved doors and old town alleys —  Wander the narrow, winding streets that make Stone Town famous, learning to spot the different door styles and the meanings behind their carvings — a tradition brought by Arab and Indian traders centuries ago.

Old Slave Market and memorial —  Visit the site of the former slave market, one of the last in the world to close, and the moving memorial built to remember those who passed through it — an essential and sobering part of understanding Zanzibar's history.

Anglican Cathedral Church —  Built on the site of the old slave market itself, the Anglican Cathedral Church stands as both a place of worship and a memorial. Inside, see the marble pillar marking the spot of the old whipping post, and learn about the church's construction under Bishop Edward Steere in the late 19th century, shortly after the abolition of the slave trade in Zanzibar.

Darajani Market —  Explore the busy stalls of Darajani Market, Stone Town's main marketplace, filled with spices, fresh produce, fish and everyday local life — a great spot for photos and a real sense of how the town lives day to day.

Free time and return Depending on your package, enjoy some free time to browse shops or grab a coffee before your driver returns you to your hotel.
